GUIDE TO COLOUR TEMPERATURE AND IT’S IMPORTANCE

Every light you buy, whether it’s a Halogen, LED, or even an HID lamp, will have a colour
temperature. This unit is measured in Kelvins (K), where the higher the Kelvin, the whiter the light is. It’s used to describe the hue or ‘temperature’ of a globes light – that is, how warm or cool it appears. All normal globes have a colour temperature, and shouldn’t be confused with RGB coloured lights.

Now, you may be wondering why Colour Temperature is such an important aspect of lighting – the answer being simple. This measurement can drastically change how the atmosphere of a room appear when lit.

The Basics:

While “colour temperature” measures the “warmth” and “coolness” of light, the actual measurement scale is very different from how we measure degrees. The lower the Kelvin, the warmer or more orange the light, and the higher the Kelvin, the bluer.

Warm light gives off an orange or yellow light, while cooler light is blue or even greenish. The middle ground, cool white, which is around the 4000K mark, is a neutral white light.

Certain Kelvin is more common than others, and have a standard name given to them within the lighting industry; you can find some examples on the chart below:

Colour Temperature                            Name
6000K - 6500K                                    Daylight
4000K                                                  Cool White/Neutral White
2,500 - 3000K                                      Warm White

Consider Your Space:
As mentioned above, the colour temperature of your globe can drastically affect the way your space looks. For example, a cool, blueish light in the living area may make it feel too clinical, while a dull, warm light in the kitchen will make it harder to see. This is because warmer lights tend to have a lower lumen output than your bright daylight globes. Remember Darker colours absorb more light, so it is best to factor this into choosing all your LED light bulbs. Use the examples below to help you decide which colour temperature is best for your space:

2500K-3000K - Warm White Light gives off a golden glow. It closely mimics the feeling of a candle or firelight. Due to this, it’s best for use in bedrooms and living areas, where a cozy, comforting aesthetic is most appreciated. Because it tends to offer lower illumination, it is also used as accent lighting. It’s also likely to be seen in hotels or restaurants where a warm, welcoming atmosphere is wanted.

3100K-4500K: Cool White/Neutral White is the middle ground for your choices. This light is neither warm or cold, but rather similar to sunlight. Great for areas such as the kitchen, bathroom, and studies – this is an all-purpose lighting temperature and the safe bet if you’re unsure of warm white.

5000K-6500K: Daylight/White Light this light is very bright and very blue. It could be described as glaringly bright. Often used in commercial settings- from warehouses to offices, to hospitals and other areas where adequate lighting and the high lumen is important. This temperature is not recommended for use in a home.

ENERGY SAVING LED MR16 DOWNLIGHTS

ENERGY SAVING LED MR16 DOWNLIGHTS

LED MR16 downlights come in affordable 5W to 10W led bulbs, with an easy installation process, it’s hard to ignore such a great product.
LED MR16 downlight bulbs are the only alternative bulbs designed to replace most of the low voltage lighting halogens. LED MR16 downlights generally last up to 50 times longer than halogen and consume only about 10% of the energy.
MR16 produces a very low voltage. In some cases, this low voltage is lower than the transformer/ LED driver in order to start its operation. The transformer can start its work from 10watt or 15watt, but the LED MR16 is only 7watt or 5watt.
In this case the voltage is lower than that of the driver or transformer. Therefore, if we want to connect the LED MR16 down light with this driver it will not work. In order to make it work we need to combine two or three LED MR16 down lights . Also, the distance of the transformer from the LED MR16 down light could be responsible for some effect on the quality of light.

The LED MR16 warm white globe are UV radiation free, meaning that the globes won’t attract any nasty insects.
As the globe is LED it will light up immediately and will not flicker. It generally runs on 12 volt and has a 7 watt which equals to an old 50 halogen. It comes in a range of colour temperatures like 4000K, but the most popular 3000K. It also comes in dimmable and non-dimmable versions. The beam angles of this light are very popular and come in 60 degrees or 36 degrees. Providing up to 340 lumens and only consuming 5W, this LED globe will reduce your power costs.
Due to the globe having little to no heat it will also provide safety around your home. The longevity of the lamp could go up to 40000 hours. The most popular brand producing this light is Philips. Though there are other brands also like GE or OSRAM and Deluxlite. But, the Philips ones are compatible with most of the drivers.

THE BENEFIT OF LED HIGHBAY LIGHTS AND WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE THE CHANGE TODAY

THE BENEFIT OF LED HIGHBAY LIGHTS AND WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE THE CHANGE TODAY

While the switch from traditional highbay lighting to LED may seem like the obvious choice, many are still sitting on the fence when it comes to making the upgrade. Industrial spaces such as warehouses, factories, and manufacturing facilities traditionally use older technology such as metal halides for their lighting requirements. When the time comes to replace a lamp, more than a few businesses will opt to simply replace old technology with old.
This is the easy choice, and perhaps the short-term savings choice – but not the most commercial option. While biting the bullet to upgrade to a high-quality circular LED highbay may seem like a large investment, the long-term savings and benefits are not to be overlooked.
led highbay

Long lasting in life and lumen:

New LED Highbays last up to 50,000 hrs vs a metal halide’s 11,000, and this doesn’t just affect the time to needing replacement.
While a conventional highbay will significantly reduce in lumen output as time goes on, new LED highbay’s will keep 95% of their initial brightness up until obsolescence. This more than makes up for the lumen reduction one will see in halogen vs led discussions.
Not only that, but every year LED technology improves, increasing the lumen output while keeping wattage low – and keeping the lights even more compact. Take the Deluxlite UFO Highbay as an example, it reaches up to 19,500lm while operating at just 150W!

Employee safety and productivity:

Metal halide lights, a type of HID (high intensity discharge) light, have a dangerous history of overheating and exploding from high pressure. While this is associated as an end of life behaviour, halides can fail and explode, even when new. This presents a risk not only to employees, but the entire facility. Exploding lights can lead to fire and property damage.
Circular LED highbay lights mitigate this risk as they do not run hot, nor do they have a history of issues like the metal halide.
They also produce a better-quality lumen, and can be easily adjusted to point towards workstations and other areas where a concentration of light will benefit employees.

Energy saving and carbon footprint:

Industrial spaces like warehouses, factories, and manufacturing facilities are known for their high electricity bills and the detrimental carbon footprint they produce. Replacing old halides with LED Highbays will quickly help with both the presented issues.
LED’s produce far less heat and UV, use up to 70% less energy than a HID light, and last longer. Less replacement’s means less carbon produced in their manufacturing – and a lower electricity bill for you.
